A LIFE OF IMPACT

I never read any of Myles Munroe’s books; never listened to him either. However, I was aware of him. I think I have two or so display picture quotes of his. That is about how much I knew him. I never met Chaz B that anchored ‘Life Issues’ on 94.7FM. I listened in on his programme if I switched on the radio and happened to hear him. That was as much as I knew him. I never met Dora Akiliyu yet I had to ask the question why really do the good ones die early and most times in pain or misery? I never met General Sani Abacha but he is for ever etched in our memory. Though his is a controversial choice but he made an impact no doubt. He could careless what the internationals thought and our economy was once more boosted. I never met Eva Peron or...

“CHURCH IS OVERRATED”

It is a Sunday afternoon and I am going through my timeline on Twitter when I saw a tweet which said ‘Church is overrated’. That wasn’t what caught my attention. It was the deluge of upset responses, insults and defenses that followed. One response was even directed at the father of the tweeter. The Tweeter clearly understands his audience and how to provoke a reaction. For some reason, even though we all know none of us is perfect and there is no wrong that we might not commit or even commit, our default response to anyone is to be judgmental, defensive and often unforgiving. When he made the statement I would have thought the first thing to do was to understand what he meant or where he was coming from, not start off with an offense. And...

Dear Dr. Ebele Goodluck Jonathan

I hope this letter finds you in good health. How are the children? How is Mummy? She’s been quiet for sometime now. Hope nothing is wrong? How is governing the Nigerian people? I’m sorry; that question must have increased your heart rate by double. I know how that is possible, I deal with them everyday. Where are my manners? I haven’t introduced myself. My name is DSW; one of your subjects. I thought I would engage you in a little problem that I can’t take anymore. I have pondered on whom to write to and address this pressing issue, but I sense there is no better person to handle this than the number one citizen himself. The Nigerian road users! The pedestrians and motorists alike. Everyone is culpable! In fact government officials lead the way in this...

WE DO NOT NEED GOD

I got a call from my tailor asking for a point of clarification on the length of a skirt I had asked him to make for me. In parting, as I reiterated the length; he said ‘if God allows, the length will be as you want it.’ This response can only be interpreted in one way as it relates to this situation. I laughed; he had taken the measurement, he had a sample, he has sewn for me before in that length; why would God create a misstep in the sewing of this skirt?? How did God get into the length of my shirt?? I have really grown puzzled about how Nigerians call God in everything; the ‘Resignation and Situation game’; whatever happens we are resigned to the treacherous will of God. However, what became even more puzzling to me is this; with a country that calls...

TRUE STORY: WASTED YOUTH

TRUE STORY: WASTED YOUTH   A reader sent in this true story and has requested to remain anonymous.   A number of stories have been going around about men’s sexual cruelty to women. Seems this sort of inhuman treatment being meted out on women is becoming a trend. Personally, I do not like reading such stories because it does not bring pleasant memories to me at all; memories. I would love to put a lid on it. Maybe thanks to the power of the internet and the social media, we all now get to hear such stories, but the fact is that the occurrence of these incidents is not new. Way back in school then, we used to hear stories being whispered about. I know its natural that when males and females get to a certain age, their hormones tend to take control...

40 THINGS A MAN SHOULD KNOW

I had looked for a book to parody like the women’s guide book of my previous post; I found none. I then wrote my own; feel free to parody, comment or even add.   That all action hero figures are just that; figures. How to pray; on the Last Day we are all pretty much equal women don’t change How to set realistic goals How to remember anniversaries, birthdays and St. Valentine’s Day! How to write a love letter That dirty socks don’t walk!!! That most women ARE better drivers; ok, let’s compare accident rates A few sure-fire ways to make his wife laugh 10. That being a gentleman is not a sign of weakness; rather a man who is secure and comfortable in himself and that is a huge turn-on. 11. Women are able to handle more problems at a time, because...
