NEEDED: KNIDNESS GIVERS

I read the story of a woman somewhere in the world, who distributed goodie bags to all the travellers on her flight in celebration of her birthday; the act was described as kindness. 🤔 I’m not quite sure this qualifies as kindness as much as celebrating yourself with others🤔🤔. Anyway, the gesture was reciprocated with a plane full of strangers wishing her a happy birthday. The person who went out richer, happier and fuller was the woman. She gave (financially), she made some people smile at the surprise gesture, she made connections with humans not thinking of them as strangers, she strengthened her muscle of reaching out to human beings for the future. The world is in a vortex of evil, greed, wickedness, selfishness etc like never before. The...

HAPPY LABOURERS’ DAY

There is absolutely nothing ‘happy’ about Workers’ Day; at least from where I stand; maybe in various parts of the world but not here. All the topics of discussion to mark this year’s Labour/May/Workers’ Day spoke the same thing-all sounding like broken records. I am about to join that community of broken records. The state of the public sector was lamented; the state of the worker; minimum wage was on the front burner; suggestions, solutions, ideas, were offered but we will repeat this circle next year and nothing would have changed. The people with the bright ideas are on the outside looking in; at least for now. The Nigerian (public sector) worker is the most pitiable. The private sector affords more opportunities, better pay,...

EMMANUEL MACRON: THE MOST UNUSUAL

I have been following the French elections only because the female among them reminded me of the tenacity of Hilary Clinton and I wanted to see if she’ll make the Presidency even though she sounded a bit like Trump ( since Trump was Trump and still made the Presidency). Emmanuel Macron caught my attention on the day he was thanking his supporters when he came on stage with an older woman who I thought was Le Pen. However, I wondered why Le Pen was on stage with him and even waving at the crowd. I shrugged it off and changed the channel. Two days later, a friend sent me a condensed version of Emmanuel Marcon’s love life. I m sure it was the sheer scandal of it that made her draw my attention to it and she wasn’t going to be scandalized...

“NO SEX PLEASE; WE ARE MARRIED!”

Why do so many marriages have sexual issues. I’m not talking about premature ejaculation, which seems to be trending among men these days, neither am I talking about related medical issues on either side. No, I’m talking about the lack of unbridled sexual activity between a man and his wife; between a woman and her husband. You know; no holds barred wherever sexual intercourse that leaves both satiated, smiles on their faces and a spring in their step with the mentally that “I can conquer the world” (maybe not quite that but you know what I mean). If not even for the preceding reasons; for medical ones like burning calories, sense of well-being, improved attitude etc. Majority of couples are “managing” each other. Women might...

WE ARE DINO!

WE ARE DINO! When I watched Senator Dino Melaye acting, chanting and singing a song that has been given three different interpretations all within the space of 30 seconds, I knew he was up to something. He blew it out of the park when he arrived in the Assembly in a matriculation gown (not sure if he didn’t return his or he rented it for that occasion!) The backlash has been typical to say the least; the cries of distress that Senator Dino has destroyed, desecrated and brought our democracy into disrepute among other accusations has rent the air. Nigeria is a country that will continually defy any form of definition. A disservice was done to Nigeria as a nation. While understanding that we don’t fit into a mould, there has been a struggle for us to...

THIRD CHANCE: STORY OF A MODERN DAY PRODIGAL SON

I would like to thank the Proprietress of Ladela Schools for giving me permission to share this story.  Most times we underestimate the value of being opportune to hear inspiring stories; I learnt and re-learnt lessons. It ended my day on a good note and I left the school feeling hopeful about everything; all was not lost. It was that time of the year at Ladela Schools when the senior students picked up Expression of Interest Forms to run for various perfect positions. There was a caveat though; if a student had been suspended twice, that student need not apply. Frankly speaking, it didn’t make any sense to me. First of all, why were students who had committed grievous..ok serious offenses, being even allowed to think they could have the privilege of being...
