DR BENNET OMALU: ANOTHER NIGERIAN SMASHING GOALS…OVERSEAS

In a sense I was annoyed after watching the film “Concussion” which was the story of the life work of Dr Bennet starring Will Smith! Here was a Nigerian (another one!) who incidentally became an American citizen in February 2015 after leaving the country in 1994. Another Nigerian had succeeded overseas and made another country fortunate to have him which had become our loss. Here Hollywood was paying tribute to him. Born in Nigeria in 1968, Bennet Omalu graduated from the University of Nigeria’s medical school, before continuing his training in the U.S. In 2002, he discovered the presence of a degenerative disease in the brain of former pro football player Mike Webster, naming the condition “Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy” (CTE)....

ALL PROGRESSIVES DEMOCRATIC PEOPLES’ CONGRESS

When the All Progressives Congress (APC) stuck out its tongue at the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) because Hon. Tambuwal, then Speaker of the House of Representatives defected in the most public display of disloyalty by coming out of the closet as an APC man, the party forgot the basic 26th Rule of Power: KEEP YOUR HANDS CLEAN and the very basic Law of Karma. APC took its eye of the ball and allowed itself to be visibly seen indulging in cheap theatrics. No one is saying that politicians can’t cross carpet but the impunity with which it was done and how such defectors are “rewarded” in their new parties sends the wrong signals. Ah, you are thinking about Triple F? He doesn’t count. He just went back home. When APC...

WHAT I LEARNT!

Nigeria thankfully has shown the world more especially America; who never minds its business and is always hiding in the wings and pinching issues and our colonial master, the UK that we can be civil and behave like human beings. We didn’t run through our streets like savages killing, maiming, destroying and soaking the ground with blood. We didn’t disintegrate. We are still standing as one. We are now closer to our destiny. We are not out of the woods yet but we are on the move. CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL NIGERIANS. We went to the polls and effected a bloodless coup. Now, to what I learnt from the just concluded 2015 Presidential Elections. 1. The true hero in all this turned out to be President Jonathan. He turned from being the Most...

NIGERIANS GO TO THE POLLS

If there is a country that is difficult to understand, is unique in a strange sort of way and the citizenry are number one in murmuring and complaining; it is Nigerians. We know it, the world knows it. These attributes and more have got the world’s spotlights on us at various times. We are flamboyant, often indiscreet, heady, irrational with a herd mentality when it comes to matters that need our critical reasoning. So we are here at a crucial point of our nation’s history because we the citizens declared a state of emergency. Our President was too democratic. (Other words for him are spineless, weak, clueless) His very ascension to the number one office in the land forms the bedrock of the President’s journey. Few...

THIS VALENTINE BE AS SMART

There is no ‘love’ for Valentine this year. The normal advertising gimmicks are just not there. Even food seasoning companies would have jumped on the bandwagon and come up with how Maggi or Knorr cubes can be your Val! The decor in shops are not encouraging at all, very lack luster. Politics and the future of the country has dominated everything. Even the salons are agog with politics. Rightly so. The way we have taken Valentine’s Day, yes, for those expressing ‘shock’ at my insistence on Valentine’s Day during this serious period of our Nation’s history; Valentine’s Day is as serious. For what it is worth, it keeps the engine of the second most important institution in the world warm…well… Ladies,...
