“CHURCH IS OVERRATED”

It is a Sunday afternoon and I am going through my timeline on Twitter when I saw a tweet which said ‘Church is overrated’. That wasn’t what caught my attention. It was the deluge of upset responses, insults and defenses that followed. One response was even directed at the father of the tweeter. The Tweeter clearly understands his audience and how to provoke a reaction. For some reason, even though we all know none of us is perfect and there is no wrong that we might not commit or even commit, our default response to anyone is to be judgmental, defensive and often unforgiving. When he made the statement I would have thought the first thing to do was to understand what he meant or where he was coming from, not start off with an offense. And...

THERE IS NOTHING MORE SELFISH THAN LOVE

And I agree! The above heading was a re-tweet I saw on Twitter by @Toity_McQueen; “‘there is nothing as selfish as ‘Love’” after a number of wordless statements between I and @ wordsworthgwary, who re-tweeted the quote, I decided to write on it because clearly there is a fine line in the quote. Love has been broken down into different types; Eros; sensual love, Philia; love towards one another, Storge; family relational love and Agape; God’s demonstrated love towards us. The expressions of the different types of love are like night and day. With the nonsense we are witnessing and accepting in the world today, there will soon be definitions and clamour for the inclusion of the following types of expressions; ‘homosexual, paedophile, incestuous and...

SECOND HAND EMOTION

Someone once said that Love is the slowest form of suicide. Dark true words indeed-because something is sure making people sing, act, die, write or long for it. Quite simply it means when you love; you kill yourself. This quote was meant to be all encompassing. When you love in your religion, your family ties and your relationships you are expected to kill your “self”. How many of us can say we truly kill ourselves? Is it even fair to ask someone to kill him/herself for another person?? Hmmm, Burno Mars; “I’ll take a grenade for you……….but you won’t do the same” that’s even literally killing yourself for the person and it was expected back in the exact manner. Who asked him? Should you love and not expect it in return? What’s the value...
