COMPLETE SHADES OF HONESTY.

So on Monday Angela my friend who works at 106.3WE FM asked if I would be a guest on her show to talk about sex in light of Fifty Shades of Grey. For those who haven’t read the book (I have the trilogy), it is an over glorified more explicit Mills and Boons book (girls and some boys remember?) focusing on the world of Sadomasochism. As over-glorified and as cheesy as it could get, it clearly struck a chord with people worldwide even above other books in the same genre making the New York Best Seller List! There is even a film adaptation in the works (I’m not sure the actors they have shortlisted can bring the much needed heat to the screen…*shrugs shoulders*). Anyway, the angle that she wanted to talk about had to do with wives having their sexual...

AN OPEN LETTER TO MADIBA-BY CHRIS NGWODO, ABUJA DEBATE

Dear Madiba, I can’t tell you how disappointed I was by the recent disclosure that you had left only a miserly $4 million to be shared by your family, the African National Congress, former staff and several local schools. $4 million? Really? Is this supposed to be some kind of joke? With all due respect, sir, you should be ashamed of yourself. In my country, we have small time functionaries in obscure government offices performing miracles of self-enrichment with public funds on a scale that would impress Donald Trump and Richard Branson. You had a global brand and were regarded as a secular saint. You lived the ultimate fairy tale emerging from prison after 27 years to become president of one of the world’s biggest diamond-producing nations. Not since Joseph...

THE DEATH OF EDUCATION

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has been on strike for about two months and it seems with the posture taken by both sides; the elephants have no inclination to change their stand. Two months seems like a lifetime already but I can remember when ASUU went on strike for a year! I was affected. It is really a sad time for the educational system of our country. The question is what sort of educational system do we even have? Clearly none; since the Federal Government recently sent 1000 or so Niger-Delta repentant Militants to various foreign universities. None was sent to our very own universities while we sit and watch. There is so much confusion, lack of direction, compromise in the system, oodles of money being dumped down the drain and precious...

THE DEBATE-THE WOMEN SPEAK

The topic was random; it started off with the latest trend among young couples of sleeping in separate rooms. Apparently, it is a serious no-no for the couple to sleep apart except of course in a polygamous setting. Then the almighty topic of failing marriages came up and the discussion narrowed down the reasons to spoilt women and financial freedom. The discussion was evenly split. The ‘Women are spoilt’ group believed that our mothers’ level of tolerance was so high that they could catch their husbands in the act, calmly deal with the situation; by not dealing with the situation, carry on as if nothing happened and eventually record 40 years married! But the present generation of woman would have a fit and all hell would break loose if her man was as much...
